market, but also to the impact it has on the smallholders, specifically in the rural tropics. While there has been considerable attention directed toward cattle production in the tropics, there has been less energy focused on smaller animals like the goat. The goat has the potential to play an important role in livestock development, especially as a means to improve the lives of much of the world’s rural poor. This is due to the goat’s unique characteristics as a production animal and the current patterns of population distribution and management in the tropics.
Generally viewed as a kind of savings account rather than as a regular source of income, and often overlooked as a supply of animal protein ready for immediate home consumption, the goat could still be considered an underdeveloped resource. Improving the utilization of the goat within the small farming systems will prove beneficial to the long term food supply of the needy.
Project Mercy has developed a concept that allows a family to receive a pair of goats, male and female. The family promises give back to Project Mercy the first male and female which is assigned to yet another family. We want this to be an endless cycle that becomes a foundational supply of milk and meat among 3rd world countries. This concept has met with favorable acknowledgement from city, provincial, and national government officials.
$75.00 will purchase a pair of goats in many countries, while in others the range is as high as $150.00. To make donations for your pair of goats click on Goat Supply or the donate buttons provided on this page.
